Agricultural Biotechnology at Kenya-AIST goes beyond traditional agricultural training. The programme combines theoretical foundations with practical innovation, drawing from disciplines such as ICT Engineering, environmental science, and genetic research to create comprehensive solutions for food production systems.
The core research areas and specializations include:
Crop Production: Exploring advanced cultivation techniques, sustainable farming systems, and environmental management for optimized productivity and climate resilience.
Crop Breeding: Focusing on genetic improvement and breeding of high-performing crop varieties tailored to Kenya’s ecological conditions, using both classical and modern biotechnology tools.
Postharvest Management: Applying postharvest technologies to reduce food waste, extend shelf life, and maintain nutritional quality during storage and distribution.
Food Science: Including food processing and engineering, with a focus on functional foods that promote health and nutrition, as well as the development of value-added agricultural products.
