The Department of Chemical Engineering at Kenya-AIST is dedicated to training a new generation of chemical engineers who will drive transformative and sustainable industrial progress in Kenya, the region, and around the world.
Our programs emphasize innovation, problem-solving, and hands-on research, preparing graduates to make significant contributions to priority sectors such as energy, manufacturing, medicines, agriculture, minerals processing, and green chemistry.
Kenya has an abundance of organic and mineral raw materials, many of which are still underutilized. These resources offer enormous prospects for the creation of value-added products, bio-based chemicals, and environmentally friendly materials that promote national growth. The Department, guided by the Kenya-AIST mandate, focuses on transforming raw resources into viable industrial solutions that increase productivity, create jobs, and support long-term socioeconomic growth.
Our curriculum is tailored to address the needs of sustainable industrialization, in accordance with Kenya Vision 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and worldwide trends towards low-carbon, circular, and green economies. Students are not only taught fundamental chemical engineering principles but also exposed to real-world industry challenges through project-based learning, internships, and applied research.
Specialization areas and research focus
